ADR | Automated Dialogue Replacement
ADR – automated dialogue replacement involves additional dialogue recordings, a process that is essential to many films. There are often good reasons to replace dialogue from the original location sound. The actors re-record the required lines in sync with the picture.
ADR (automated dialogue replacement) is a specialised form of voiceover. Its main purpose is to replace or re-record dialogue for film and television after filming has taken place.
This usually happens in a recording studio, either to resolve sound problems or to change dialogue for creative reasons.
Voiceover has a broader meaning and can include any spoken material added to an audiovisual production, such as commentary, narration or character voices in animation.
